Water well rigs, drilled and proven on geothermal sites
Every GT Series rig is specified as a geothermal and water well drill rig. The qualities that make them fast on a loop field — rod handling, mud and air capability, casing handling and uptime — are the ones a water well driller needs on a residential, agricultural or municipal well.
The rigs drill mud rotary, air rotary and DTH hammer. For mud, they are set up for dual mud pumps — two centrifugal pumps, or one centrifugal and our MP1200 triplex piston pump at 317 gpm and 580 psi. For air, a water injection mist pump and DTH lube system are standard. Clamps open to 12½ in (320 mm), the working table doubles as a casing extractor, and a hydraulic welder and generator can be fitted for welding casing on site.
Choose single rotary for stable ground, or dual rotary to case through collapsing overburden to the aquifer. Either way you get a rig built and supported by people who drill for a living.

Which GTD rigs are used for water well drilling?
All five GT Series rigs — the GT35, GT45, GT65, GT45DR and GT65DR — are specified as geothermal and water well drill rigs. A dedicated GW Series is in development.
How deep a water well can the rigs drill?
The GT35 is designed for 650 ft and can reach beyond 1,300 ft (400 m); the GT45 is ideal for 800–1,000 ft; the GT65 and GT65DR are built for 1,000 ft and beyond. Actual depth depends on formation, method and tooling.
Mud or air — which can I drill with?
Both, and DTH hammer too. The rigs are configured for dual mud pumps — two centrifugal, or a centrifugal and an MP1200 triplex piston pump at 317 gpm and 580 psi — and carry a water injection mist pump and DTH lube system for air and hammer work.
What is the largest hole I can drill?
The clamps and table open to 12½ in (320 mm). Tell us your finished casing size and we will confirm the tooling.
Do I need dual rotary for water wells?
Only where the overburden will not stand up — running sands, gravels, boulders. There a dual rotary rig advances casing with its own head while the top drive drills inside it, all the way to the aquifer. In stable ground, a single-rotary rig with casing run from the table is faster and simpler.
