MG500 MUD GUZZLER

The MG500 Mud Recycling System is designed to improve drilling efficiency by effectively separating and recycling drilling fluids on site. Capable of processing up to 400–500 gallons per minute (1,500–1,900 L/min) with a separation point down to 15 micrometers, the system ensures cleaner drilling fluid and more consistent performance throughout the drilling operation.

Built with a large shale shaker deck, multiple hydrocyclone cones, and a high-capacity tank system, the MG500 efficiently removes solids while maintaining a steady supply of conditioned drilling fluid. Features such as the adjustable shaker angle, Venturi mud mixing hopper, and pump-back capability to the rig allow operators to fine-tune the system to changing ground conditions while keeping drilling operations running smoothly.

MG500 Mud Guzzler questions

Something we have not answered? Ask a driller.

What does the MG500 Mud Guzzler do?

It cleans and recycles drilling fluid on site. The MG500 processes 400–500 gallons per minute (1,500–1,900 lpm) and separates solids down to 15 micrometres, so the same mud goes back down the hole instead of being mixed fresh and hauled away.

How does it separate the cuttings?

A 4 ft × 5½ ft shale shaker takes out the coarse cuttings through API 40 or 80 mesh screens (changeable to any mesh size), then four 5 in desilter hydrocyclones take it down to 15 micrometres. OLI 7 G-force linear motors drive the shaker, and its angle adjusts from −10° to +6° to suit changes in geology.

How much mud does it hold?

1,665 gallons (6,300 litres) in total: a 925-gallon (3,500-litre) main tank and a 740-gallon (2,800-litre) mixing and storage tank. The V-shaped tanks minimise solids build-up, and a venturi hopper mixes powdered mud products.

Can it feed the rig’s mud pumps?

Yes. Its 4×3×13 single-stage centrifugal pump can pump back to the rig to prime and supercharge the drilling pumps.

Is the MG500 self-propelled?

Yes. It sits on its own Doosan Solar 75 tracked carrier with a 110 hp Doosan DM03 Stage V engine, climbs 25° grades and weighs 30,800 lbs (14,000 kg). It is 20 ft 9 in (6.3 m) long, 7 ft 8 in (2.3 m) wide and 11 ft 6 in (3.5 m) high.

Where does the MG500 earn its keep?

Any mud-drilling operation, and geothermal loop fields and water wells in particular, where recycling the mud saves water, mud products and disposal. It tracks alongside the rig and pumps clean mud back to it.
